Some people say that the Siamese cats are a breed with the greatest beauty among of all cat breeds, and are probably the most recognizable one due to their markings – colored ears, “masked” face, “socks” and dark tail on the light colored body, all of which emphasizes its bright blue eyes.
Siamese cats often appear in art and literature of ancient Siam (now Thailand). More than 100 years after it appeared in the West, the Siamese cat has remained one of the most popular breeds as a pet and a cat for shows. There are many theories about the origin of Siamese cats – including those who say it is related to the Egyptian and Manx cats and it is generally said that the Siamese species existed in the ancient city of Ayudha, which was founded in 1530 and was the capital of Siam when it was conquered by the Burmese.
Among the artifacts and manuscripts rescued from that time, the most famous – and for man, the most beautiful one is the book of poems about cats. It is not known exactly when it was written, but it could be between 1350 and 1750 year.
Siamese cats in 1871 became a very popular and desirable breed. They are very hard to breed because they are not particularly strong and often suffer from feline enteritis (a potentially fatal virus that damages the intestinal mucosa, but against which there is no vaccine), and have respiratory problems.
But despite these difficulties, the Siamese cat by the end of the 19th century spread through Britain, and to the United States it came in the late 19th century. The first standard for the breed was written in 1892.
Many associations and cat lovers recognize only four colors – a Siamese cat with black, blue, chocolate and purple markings. Some argue that the only true Siamese cat is the one has blue eyes and black marks!
Regardless of the color of their labels, all Siamese share extroverted and typical characteristics for this beautiful breed, especially by its appearance – slim and graceful body, long head with slanted eyes and a fine muzzle, long front legs and a long tail that tapers towards the top and is not bent.
They are the noisiest, most playful, most intelligent and most demanding cats. But above all, for many fans, Siamese cats are the most beautiful cats that’ve walked the Earth.
