It wasn’t a rare situation that some Siamese cats gave birth to kittens with much longer hair. In 1928 long-haired Siamese cats were registered with CFA in the UK, however their long hair made it impossible to present them in exhibitions as Siamese cats. These lovely cats are generally indulged owners as pets.
During the forties of the 20th century Marion Dorsey presented Balinese kittens, and a number of cat breeders in the United States began working on having these cats recognized as a separate breed. Since the gene for long hair is inherited in a recessive manner, any long-haired Siamese cat must be homozygous (pure breed) for long hair. This means that they must carry two genes for long hair, and that each offspring obtained by mating two of these cats also are long-haired cast.
Balinese cats in many ways resemble Siamese cats: they are slim, have an elegantly fine body with a long wedge-shaped head and dark almond-shaped eyes. Balinese cats are in all aspects beautifully elegant animals. Their coat is of a medium length, they don’t have fluffy undercoat like other long-haired cats, and the hair is usually joined to the body which in some ways also facilitates the care of these cats.
From the distance, the Balinese cat is easily mistaken for Siamese – until you see the tail. The tail of the Balinese cat is long and luxurious. CFA in the U.S. only recognizes four basic color codes: black, blue, chocolate and purple. Like with all cats, the hair of Balinese’s darkens with age, therefore the career of these cats for exhibitions is quite short.
As might be expected, the Balinese cats share many characteristics with the Siamese cats. They have incredible acrobatic skills – their bodies allow them to perform great movement in tight areas (mainly the kitchen drawers and cabinets!). They love climbing – especially over the curtains, they are very cuddly, and require a lot of attention, but they keep fancy reservations! Although they are lively and full of spirit, Balinese cast are chattering almost like Siamese!
Some people confuse the Balinese cat with the Siamese type because of its colors. The Balinese cat is another well-loved breed of domesticated cat. This cat loves being around other people. It enjoys the attention and the socialization activities. It is also intelligent and it loves to explore. This is actually ranked as the most intelligent cat breed among long-haired cats. This cat can live up to fifteen years or more. Its blue eyes come in different hues such as light blue, violet, and sapphire. However, the cat’s diet and its age can affect the shade and deepness of the color of its eyes.
