The Australian Mist is a cat breed also known as Spotted Mist. This cat breed origins from Australia and was developed in 1976 by Truda Straede. This cat breed is actually a mix between the Abyssinian, Burmese and unknown domestic short haired cat breed. The original name of this breed was Spotted Mist, as mentioned earlier, but after the cats with marbled coats rather than spots were accepted as a part of the breed, the name changed to Australian Mist in 1998.
Most of the Australian Mist catteries are settled in Australia being this a relatively new breed. However, these cats can still be found in the UK and America. For example, Mary Stuart was the first person to bring this cat breed to the UK in 2007. From that time, today on the territory of UK there are around 100 Australian Mist cats. The Australian Mist cat breed was recognized by the World Cat Federation for championships, and in 2013 celebrated 27 years as a championship breed.
This is a medium sized cat with large eyes and round head. The fur is very short therefore doesn’t request a lot of brushing as the hair loss is really minimal. There are three different coat patterns each of them being just slightly different from the original ground color.
The Australian Mist cats are very tolerant and are not inclined to scratch. Because of this, they are suggested for people with small children. This cat breed thrives on human contact and they don’t mind even if they stay all their life indoors. This of course is an advantage for many people, as many of them prefer to keep their pets indoors nowadays. This cat breed can also be trained to go on a lead.
Australian Mist cats are excellent companions for people who are bound to house due to some disability or illness, as they have a big tendency of crawling and settling in someone’s lap even without invitation. They also don’t mind the company of other cats or dogs. Because of all the mentioned reasons, the Australian Mist is a very companionable cat which soon becomes recognized as a part of the family.
The Australian Mist Cat was also known as the Spotted Mist cat. It originated in Australia and continues to capture the hearts of cat lovers in different parts of the world. It is medium-sized with large, expressive eyes and a round head. It does not shed too much so there is no need to spend a lot of time cleaning up after it.
