Ragdoll cat is a relatively new breed that was first developed by Ann Baker in the sixties of the 20th century in California, and is sometimes mixed with Birman cats. Both breeds have label whose color can be black, blue, chocolate or purple – they can have white color on the head, body and legs (known as bi-color), white color on the belly and feet (gloves), or be completely white (Colourpoint ).

However, Ragdoll cats have a larger body than Birman cats. Ragdoll cats are the result of efforts to create a mild-mannered cat. The Ragdoll cat is known for its ability to completely relax when touched or lifted.

Ann Baker has established an association of breeders, but Ragdoll cats in that time were not accepted by other associations. However, other breeders managed to create a breed of Ragdoll cats that is today accepted in all the main registries. In addition, the Ragdoll cat is the first breed of cats in history to get their own trademark.

Ragdoll cats have a very docile nature, which makes them ideal pets. It is also a breed that is very easy to train because they respond well to tasty treats as rewards! These characteristics are actually the result of genetic mutations in the process of selective breeding among domesticated animals.

This is a very large/big cat – a male can have up to 9 pounds – whose body is strong and muscular, with short, thick neck and deep chest. The legs are of medium length, and the front legs are covered with shorter hair than the one that covers the rest of the body.

The feet are large, round and covered with tufts of fur and pads are dark brown or black. The head is medium in size and tapering, with full cheeks and rounded muzzle. Beautiful oval eyes are blue, while the ears are wide at the base, with rounded tips only slightly tilted forward.

As with all long-haired cats, the fur of Ragdoll cats is beautifully silky, and very dense. The coat is longer around the neck. In the beginning of the development of the breed, the most common colors of Ragdoll cats were black and blue, but later breeders were able to create chocolate and purple.
